Earrings do not miss in most ladies’ wardrobes. They are the most common form of jewelry worn by women on their ears. Earrings come in all kinds of styles, designs, sizes and also made of various kinds of materials. Some of the materials used to make earrings are silver, gold, Birthstones, pearls, wood, diamond, beads and even gemstones among others. Depending on the material used to make the specific earring, it is important to know how to care for them. The kind of maintenance and cleaning done on wooden earrings is not the same as that done on gold earrings.
Silver is known to tarnish with time hence it is important to take proper care of them so that they keep their good shape all the time. Gold and silver are known to react hence earrings made from the two kinds of metals should never be stored together. This is due to the fact that when the two are stored together, silver tends to turn black in color. In case this happens, the pair of earrings can be soaked in a solution of water and baking soda. The tarnish can also be removed using a toothbrush and toothpaste that is white in color. For a fine finishing or shine, a soft cloth is used to shine the earrings.
Gold with a higher karat number is always the finest and softest. This means that gold with a high karat number, for instance 24, is considered pure gold. This kind of gold also has a gleaming look and though it costs more, it is not as hard as those mixed with other metals. Non-detergent soap mixed with water is enough to clean gold earrings and in case they got scratches, a toothbrush with soft bristles should be used to brush them away.
Unlike gold earrings, silver earrings are cleaned in a totally different manner. A mixture of dishwashing liquid, detergent used for cleaning, water ammonia is heated for a few minutes after shaking it and the silver earrings dropped inside the containing jar. It is then left for a few minutes in the mixture. Leave the earrings in the solution for about ten minutes before removing them and rinsing with clean water. A clean and soft cloth is then used to wipe the earrings dry. Diamond and pearl earrings are also cleaned using different methods unlike other kinds of earrings available in the market.
